Aug 2020 Start of the detailed planing of the MA program in close coordination with the members of Alanus University. The anual meeting of the shareholders of the COHE decides to develop an international online program in Human Ecology for summer 2021
July 2020 The MDs of COHE join a very good meeting at the Alanus University in Bonn-Alfter. Chaired by Rector Prof. Pieper and accompanied by Dr. Thiel, MD of the Alanus-Foundation, Prof. Battenfeld, Dean of the Department of Business Management and Prof. Schmaus, Chair of the Institute of Philosophy and Aesthetics to deliberate the new master program “Human Ecology and Philosophy of Social Entrepreneurship”. Both sides agreed, the master program should and will start as a joint program. The partners agreed to continue the proceedings at a good pace in fall 2020.
May 2020 The MDs of the COHE presents the final draft of the MA programm Human Ecology and Philosophy of social Entrepreneurship in a video conference during the XXX conference of the German Society of Human Ecology.
Dec 2019 The MDs of the COHE presents the draft of the MA programm Human Ecology and Philosophy of social Entrepreneurship to the Stockholders and authors for a final attunement.

May 2013 The annual conference of the "Deutsche Gesellschaft für Humanökologie (DGH) decides to establish a plan and curricular for the first summer university.
Feb/Mar 2013 The XIX international conference of the Society for Human Ecology takes place in Canberra, Australia. Wolfgang Serbser will chair the symposia "New Directions in Human Ecology for Higher Education – Core concepts and curricula in Human Ecology" to continue the international discussion.
Jul/Aug 2012 A "Great Charrette" could develop detailed plans to settle the European College for Human Ecology in Emmendingen an to prepare the act of foundation.

A Charrette Weissenburg-Gunzenhausen in Bavaria is still on the agenda. Details should be discussed on a meeting of the study group during the summer 2012.

Mai 2012 The "1. International College Forum Frankfurt" takes place in cooperation with the Global Business Week 2012 in Frankfurt Main, Germany to discuss ways to settle colleges of liberal arts and science in Germany and Europe.
Mai 2012 Annual conference of the German Society for Human Ecology takes place in Sommerhausen from May 10th to 12th. Meeting of the study group "College of Human Ecology an Liberal Arts".
Nov 2011 Im November 2011 befasste sich der Council for European Urmanism Deutschland (C.E.U.D) auf seiner Jahrestagung in Emmendingen mit den Ergebnissen der Charrette in Emmendingen. Der C.E.U.D befürwortet einen Campus mit mehreren Standorten und wird insbesondere eine Schwerpunkt zur energetischen Reorganisation urbaner Räume im wissenschaftlichen Sinne nach bestem Wissen und Können begleiten und unterstützen.
Aug 2011 Das College of the Atlantic erklärt sich in seinem Letter of Intent bereit mit einem künftigen College of Human Ecology for Europe eng zu kooperieren und insbesondere an einem transatlantischen Austausch von Lernenden und Lehrenden mitzuwirken. Das COA wird das COHE in einer möglichen Akkreditierung des Studiengangs im Bundesstaat Maine /USA unterstützen und bis zu einer erfolgreichen Akkreditierung es qualifizierten Studierenden des COHE ermöglichen mit den letzten beiden Studienjahren den Studienabschluss des COA, Bachelor of Arts, zu erwerben.

Damit ist sichergestellt, dass Studierende an einer Hochschule der Humanökologie für Europa einen international anerkannten Abschluss erhalten können auch soweit die nötigen Akkreditierungsverfahren noch nicht abgeschlossen sind.

Zugleich liegen damit alle wichtigen Absichtserklärungen der Kooperationspartner vor, um nunmehr gezielt die Suche nach einer geeigneten Grundfinanzierung der Hochschule zu intensivieren.

Juli 2011 Die Stadt Emmendingen erklärt sich in einer weiteren Absichtserklärung als Eigentümer der Karl-Friedrich-Schule und vorbehaltlich der Zustimmung der Gremien der Stadt bereit, das Gebäude zur Einrichtung einer Hochschule für Humanökologie zu veräußern und beim Erwerb weitere Gebäude zu unterstützen.

Am 11. Juli 2011 fand das dritte Treffen der Hochschulinitiative Emmendingen im im Arkana, im Haus der Firma Inomed in Emmendingen statt. Themenschwerpunkte waren eine nächste Charrette und eine geplante Summer-School.

Juni 2011 Auf dem Pfingsttreffen des Planungsteams der Charrette Emmendingen hat die Collegeinitiative der DGH die nächsten Schritte abgestimmt. Wichtigste Punkte waren die Planung einer großen Charrette in Emmendingen noch im Jahr 2011 zur Bearbeitung von fünf großen Themenblöcken:
- Stadt, Region – Wirtschaft
- Studienprogramm & Gendermainstreaming
- Studien- und Forschungsschwerpunkt Future Agro Culture
- Studien- und Forschungsschwerpunkt Future Urban Culture
- Architektur, Objektplanung und –kosten
Für das Jahr 2012 ist eine Summer School voraussichtlich in Kooperation mit der Humboldt Universität Berlin geplant.
Für beide Vorhaben sollen zur Finanzierung Stiftungen gewonnen werden.

In Emmendingen hat sich parallel die Projekt-Gruppe „Summer-School 2012“ gegründet und sich erstmals am 17. Juni 2011 auf dem „Bergfritzenhof“ in Freiamt getroffen. Das Protokoll des Treffens findet sich hier.

Die Stadt Emmendingen betont in einer weiteren Absichtserklärung ihre Unterstützung des Vorhabens insbesondere auch mit der geplanten Partnerschaft mit dem College of the Atlantic.

Mai 2011 Jahrestagung der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Humanökologie. Tagung der Studiengruppe College of Human Ecology and Liberal Arts. Das bisher erreicht wurde in der Vortagung der Studiengruppe ausführlich dargestellt und diskutiert. Auf einem zweiten Strategietreffen am Samstag in Sommerhausen wurden die nächsten Schritte beraten und abgestimmt. Sie folgen den Ergebnissen der Charrette in Emmendingen. Zugleich wurde darüber Übereinkunft erzielt. den Schwerpunkt der Arbeit auf Emmendingen zu konzentrieren. Außerdem soll die Planung einer Summerschool für 2012 unmittelbar begonnen werden. Ohne möglichen Entwicklungen am Standort Weißenburg vorzugreifen unterstützt die Studiengruppe eine künftige DGH-Tagung in Weißenburg stattfinden zu lassen. Weißenburg könnte zudem als eine Außenstelle des COHE entwickelt werden.

Die Deutsche Gesellschaft für Humanökologie erklärt sich vertreten durch den Vorstand in einer Absichtserklärung bereit, dass er die weitere Planung und den zukünftigen Betrieb eines Colleges im wissenschaftlichen Sinne nach bestem Wissen und Können begleiten und unterstützen wird.

Am 27. Mai 2011, um 18:00 Uhr fand das zweite Treffen der Hochschulinitiative Emmendingen im im Arkana, Im Hausgrün 29, im Haus der Firma Inomed in Emmendingen statt. Die Initiative hat beschlossen, sich "Förderkreis Hochschule Emmendingen" zu nennen. Themenschwerpunkte waren die nächste Charrette und die geplante Summer-School. Apr 2011 Auf der XVIII internationalen Tagung der Society for Human Ecology in Las Vegas, USA wurde von Wolfgang Serbser das Symposium "New Directions in Human Ecology Higher Education – Core concepts and curricula in Human Ecology" ausgerichtet. Der Beitrag von Wolfgang Serbser stellte den Stand der Entwicklungen zur Gründung eine Europäischen Hochschule für Humanökologie und Liberal Arts international in Emmendingen zur Diskussion. Ein anschließender Round Table diskutierte Schwerpunkte einer humanökologischen Hochschulbildung und die Herausforderungen ein solches Studienprogramm in den jeweiligen nationalen Hochschullandschaften nachhaltig zu praktizieren. Die Gründung einer Europäischen Hochschule für Humanökologie wurde ausdrücklich unterstützt und soll auch auf den nächsten Tagungen der Society for Humanökologie in ihrer Entwicklung thematisiert werden.

In Bar Harbor/Maine wurde die weitere Kooperation mit dem College of the Atlantic (COA) abgestimmt. Hiernach zeichnen sich drei Pfade ab die Abschlüsse der Studierenden an einer Europäischen Hochschule der Humanökologie schon in der Gründungsphase durch Vergabe eines US-amerikanischen Grades eines Bachelor of Science abzusichern. Die engste Kooperation mit dem COA würde im Pfad einer Erweiterung des derzeitigen Studienprogramms des COA um das Programm am COHE vorsehen. Eine weitere Variante würde darin bestehen zeitgleich die Akkreditierung durch den Bundesstaat Maine in den USA mit Hilfe des COA anzustreben. Ein unmittelbar beschreitbarer Pfad besteht in der 2 plus 2 Variante, nachder die Studierenden 50% der für den Abschluss nötigen Creditpunkte am COHE und die anderen 50% am COA erworben werden, um den Bachelor of Science des COA zu erhalten. Das COA wird mit einen entsprechenden Letter of Intent die Initiative zur Gründung einer Europäischen Hochschule für Humanökologie deutlich unterstützen.

März 2011 Am 1. März wurden die Ergebnisse der Charrette dem Gemeinderat der Stadt Emmendingen offiziell präsentiert und die Dokumentation dem Oberbürgermeister, den Fraktionsvorsitzenden der Parteien und dem Stadtplanungsamt überreicht. Ein Meinungsbild der Vertreterinnen und Vertreter des Gemeinderates ergibt bei nur zwei Enthaltungen ein klares Ja für die Hochschule. Die Stadt wird mit einer Absichtserklärung die weiteren Pläne der Initiative zur Gründung einer Europäischen Hochschule für Humanökologie nach dem Modell der Liberal-Arts-Colleges klar unterstützen.

Mit der Vorstellung der Ergebnisse der Charrette Emmendingen im Gemeinderat der Stadt Emmendingen wurden zugleich die nächsten Schritte dargelegt.

Mit den Eigentümern geeigneter Liegenschaften für die untersuchten Standorte wurde vereinbart, der Initiative ein Angebot mit ihren Preisvorstellungen zu unterbreiten.

Am 25. März 2011, um 18:00 Uhr fand der erste Hochschulstammtisch in dem Restaurant "Vinotheka" in Emmendingen statt. Ein Förderverein soll zeitnah gegründet werden und seine Arbeit aufnehmen. Die nächste Treffen der "Hochschulinitiative Emmendingen" findet am 27. Mai 2011 um 18:00 Uhr im Arkana, Im Hausgrün 29, im Haus der Firma Inomed in Emmendingen statt.

Feb 2011 Vom 4. bis 7. Februar wird die Charrette Emmendingen im Rathaus der Stadt durchgeführt. Die Stadt und Region erweist sich als interessanter Standort mit vielfältigen Anknüpfungsmöglichkeiten für einen Studiengang der Humanökologie und die damit verbundenen Forschungsschwerpunkte. Ein entsprechendes Lehrangebot zeigt sich mit dem Studienangebot des College of the Atlantic in vielen Punkten Kompatibel. Von insgesamt fünf diskutierten Standorten, kommen zunächst drei in die nähere Betrachtung. Der Präsident und der Dekan des College of the Atlantic übermitteln Grußworte an die Charrette.
Jan 2011 Ernst Ulrich von Weizsäcker und Nader Maleki sagen ihre Teilnahme an der Eröffnungsveranstaltung der Charrette Emmendingen am 4. Februar 2011 zu. Sie werden ihre Vorstellungen zu einer Europäischen Hochschule für Humanökologie einbringen.
Patricia Nevers wird sich mit ihren langjährigen Erfahrungen und Kontakten zu amerikanischen Liberal-Arts-Colleges als Außenministerin der Hochschulinitiative um weitere Kooperationen mit Hochschulen in den USA kümmern.
Laurent Boetsch, Professor an der Washington and Lee University und Begründer der ECOLAS (European Consortium of Colleges of Liberal Arts and Sciences) sagt die Kooperation mit einer künftigen Europäischen Hochschule für Humanökologie und Liberal Arts zu.

Die Stadt Emmendingen beschließt im Hauptauschuss die Durchführung einer Charrette Anfang 2011.

Aus Krankheitsgründen muss die Charrette in Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen verschoben werden.

Okt 2010 Rich Borden Mitbegründer des College of the Atlantic, Inhaber des Rachel Carson Chairs for Human Ecology und langjähriger akademischer Leiter des College sagt seine Teilnahme für die Charrette Weißenburg im Dezember zu.

Nader Maleki Inhaber der Maleki Group Frankfurt und Präsident des IBF sagt ebenfalls seine generelle Teilnahme zu.

Sep 2010 Meetings in Weissenburg und Emmendingen. The steering committee of the city council recommends to hold a Charrette in early February 2011. In Weissenburg representatives of the county and the cities of Weissenburg, Treuchtlingen and Ellingen advocate to hold a Charrette in Weissenburg from 10th to 13th December 2010.

The Charrette for the region of Freiburg should be hold in Emmendingen. The 29th of September to 1st of November 2010 could be a possible date.
The Charrette for the region Weissenburg-Gunzenhausen should be hold in Weissenburg. The 10th to 13th December 2010 is the most favorite date.

May 2010 High-level talks take place with the Lord Mayor of Emmendingen and the Lord Mayor of Weissenburg. Different sites and building complexes were visited in both regions. The Lord mayors of both towns emphasize their interest.

During the annual conference of the German Society for Human Ecology the supporter panel "College of Liberal Arts and Human Ecology" discusses the recent development in detail. The decision is made to focus oh these two regions. A call for academic contributions of DGH-members to the study program is announced. In both regions a Charrette workshop should clarify the conditions to start the college in a sustainable way.
Andreas Nebelung is named to represent and foster the college plan in South-Baden.
Regina Soergel is named to represent and foster the college plan in Weissenburg-Gunzenhausen

 

Feb 2010 In the end of February to the beginning March high-level talks take place in all three new locations:
  • The region Freiburg in South-Baden with possible sites in Eichstetten or Emmendingen
  • The regionWeissenburg in Bavaria with several possible sites
  • The Pay d'Enhaut and Berner Oberland in Switzerland with sites in Saanen and Chateau-d'Oex.
The financial plan was revised and the required space to run the college was identified.
Jan 2010 A further request from Weissenburg in Bavaria reached the college initiative to settle in this region. Regina Soergel, member of the district council in Weissenburg-Gunzenhausen encourages a meeting with the Lord Mayor of Weissenburg.
Dez 2009 A meeting with the member of the Regionalwert AG is hold in Eichstetten to detail a education initiative in South-Baden-Wurttemberg, to face the challenge of demographic change of an older becoming society. The future of organic farming could be a special spot of study an research at the Colleg of Human Ecology for Europe.
Sep 2009 A request from the region Freiburg in Baden-Wurttemberg reached the college initiative to settle in this region. Andreas Neblung, founding member of the college initiative, organizes a meeting with members of the Regionalwert AG in Eichstetten. It is a serious request and there are excellent possibilities to link study projects and research to the region.

Switzerland becomes again a focus to settle the college. Regions of interest are the Berner Oberland and the Pays d'Enhaut in the neighbor canton Vaud. Both regions claim the chance of a College Of Human Ecology to attract young people as an alternative to huge cities and metropolis.

Jun 2009 We chair the symposium "Directions in Human Ecology Education – A Core Human Ecology Curriculum?" on the XVII international conference of the  Society for Human Ecology in Manchester, UK. The Manchester Declaration & Charta "Cores of Human Ecology Curriculum" is approved.
Sep 2008 We will chair the symposium"New Directions in Human Ecology Education – Recent Programs in Higher Education" on the XVI international conference of the  Society for Human Ecology in Bellingham, USA. Wolfgang Serbser contributes with "The Bologna Process in Germany – Recent Changes in Higher Education, Recent Changes for Human Ecology?".
May 2008 The Supporter panel "College of Human Ecology and Liberal Arts" meets during the annual conference of the German Society for Human Ecology in Sommerhausen. The decision is made to intensify the search for new locations and to render more precisely regional linked study program.

Sep 2007 The international Symposium of the German Society for Human Ecology "Perspectives oh Human Ecology and Higher Education in Germany and Switzerland" is hold at the Technische Universitaet Berlin on September 13th 2010. Parto Teherani-Kroenner chaired the foundation of the virtual fakulty of the college. David Hales, Präsident des College of the Atlantic, contributes with his active encouragment of our college.

May 2007 The current development was discussed on the conference of the German Society for Human Ecology "Higher Education for Sustainable Development". The supporter panel "College of Liberal Arts and Human Ecology" is official established by the German Society for Human Ecology. Dr. Wolfgang H. Serbser becomes speaker of the panel.
Dez 2006 Call announcement in GAIA, Issue 4, 2006. Three locations are named:

Okt 2006 The concept of the College of the Atlantic for Europe was introduced and discussed at the international meeting of the Society for Human Ecology in Bar Harbor, Maine, including members of the board of the College of the Atlantic. The "Call" was agreed with the president and the dean of the College of the Atlantic.
Sep 2006 The first version "Call for the Foundation of a College of the Atlantic for Europe" was written and sent to the board of the College of the Atlantic.
Aug 2006 Invited by the International Academy for Nature Protection on the island Vilm to introduce human ecology approaches, the concept of a College of the Baltic modeled on College of the Atlantic was discussed with members of the academy.
Mai 2006 The annual conference of the German Society for Human Ecology takes place in Sommerhausen. The concept was introduced and discussed. The board of the society encourages to intensify the contact to the College of the Atlantic.
Apr 2006 Visiting the UNESCO Biosphere Entlebuch the concept of a private college for human ecology and biosphere management was introduced and discussed with the director of the biopshere Theo Schnider in Schuepfheim, Switzerland. The College of the Alps, suited in the Entlebuch becomes the fourth possible location.
Feb 2006 Discussing locations for a private college, three topic regions for further investigations were set:
  • the College of the Atlantic suited on one of the islands of the Northern Sea
  • the College of the Baltic suited on the island Ruegen in the Eastern Sea
  • the College of the Wetlands suited nearby the Biosphere Spreewald in the south of Berlin
Jan 2006 A first rough concept of a private college in Germany modeled on the College of the Atlantic was sketched and discussed with members of the German Society for Human Ecology. A pressure group was established.
Nov 2005 Invited to a round table discussion by the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Spreewald, the idea of a study program in human ecology linked to biosphere management was introduced and discussed with the biosphere management in Luebbenau, Brandenburg, Germany.
Okt 2005 Visiting and teaching for one week at the College of the Atlantic an idea was born. What has to be done to establish a private college in Germany modeled on College of the Atlantic?
