Lenelis Kruse

Prof. Dr. Lenelis Kruse-Graumann

Dr. Lenelis Kruse, until 2007 professor for psychology, especially environmental psychology at FernUniversität in Hagen, and since 1989 until today honorary professor at the Institute for Psychology, University of Heidelberg. Research and teaching interests focus on peopleenvironment-interrelationships; social and behavioral science perspectives on global (environmental) problems and their contributions for learning and education as well as changing lifestyles for a transformation towards sustainability.

Ulrich Loening

 
Dr. Ulrich Loening has a BA and Dr.Phil in biochemistry from Oxford, and continued a typical research and teaching career dealing with protein synthesis and nucleic acids, in the Departments of Botany and then Zoology in the University of Edinburgh from 1959 to about 1989. Following long-held interests, starting with natural history, gardening and farming as a kid,   he became more and more involved with society’s ecological impacts.  He helped to prevent closure in 1976 of the recently founded (Waddington 1972) Centre for Human Ecology (CHE), became its Director in 1984, and retired in 1995. In CHE he organised numerous workshops and lecture series on human ecological impacts and co-founded energy conservation organisations, organic farming bodies and a small “sustainable forest” timber company.
With his wife Francesca he converted two historic buildings towards eco-sustainable living. He plays the cello.

Jana Rückert-John

Dr. Jana Rückert-John is professor for „Sociology of Eating“ at the department Ecotrophology of the University of Applied Sciences Fulda. She studied at Humboldt-University Berlin and University Oldenburg. She had taught and researched at the department Rural and Agricultural Sociology, Gender and Nutrition of the University Hohenheim from 2000 until 2012. There she recieved her doctoral degree with her theses on “sustainable nutrition outside the home”. Her areas of research cover sociology of eating and nutrition, environmental sociology and sustainable development as well as social innovation and transformation. She is chairwoman of the “Netzwerk Ernährungskultur” (Network Nutritional Culture), which was founded in January 2015 by a merger of IAKE and AGEV.

Dieter Steiner

Prof. Dr. Dieter Steiner

Born 1932. Studies at the University of Zurich with a major in geography and minors in geology, biology and mathematics. Ph.D. 1960. Specialization in remote sensing, later in quantitative methods (statistics mainly). Held positions at the University of Chicago, the University of Zurich and the University of Waterloo (Ontario, Canada). Chair of quantitative geography at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich from 1975 until the retirement in 1998. Founded a group of human ecology in 1985 that did interdisciplinary research, looking at the human-environment problem from a social sciences and humanities perspective, and taught courses within the environmental sciences curriculum. Editor or co-editor of three books on human ecological topics and author of biographies of John Muir and Rachel Carson. Member of the Committee for a European College of Human Ecology of the German Society for Human Ecology (DGH).

Christine von Weizsäcker

Dr. Christine von Weizsäcker Dr. Christine von Weizsäcker is a biologist, researcher and activist. She has been working on technology assessment for civil society since the mid-seventies and participated in the negotiations of the Rio Process on sustainable development since 1992 and of the Convention on Biodiversity (CBD) and its Protocols since 1994. She is president of Ecoropa, president of Women in Europe for a Common Future (WECF), member of the Advisory Committee of the German Society for Human Ecology and member of the Board of the Federation of German Scientists Her many publications have contributed to the scientific and public debate.
